Seal Replacement ProcedureforPitot-Static Test Adaptor(Generic Type) |
Materials Required |
|
· Replacement Seal Kit for applicable test adaptor. · Test Adaptor Outline Drawing showing seal location inside test adaptor (supplied with Seal Kit, or refer to Manual contained in Nav-Aids Ltd. Air Data Accessories Kit for applicable aircraft). · Pre-Test Tool for applicable test adaptor. · Pin tool for surclip removal. · Mild Cleaning Solvent (Chemsearch P/N SS25). · Lubrication Fluid P/N LF5050 (Nav-Aids Ltd.). ** · Light gaze or tampon (To apply lubrication fluid). · Clean bench surface. · Compressed air gun (Optional). · Good lighting (To inspect interior of test adaptor). |
| Seal Removal and Installation |
1. Prior to disassembly of the test adaptor, prepare a clean bench surface for the layout of parts. 2. Refer to the supplied outline drawing of the test adaptor and locate and identify the seals. 4. Remove the surclip under the knurled compression nut (with a pin tool). 5. Fully back off and remove the knurled compression nut by turning counter clockwise. 6. Remove the interior of the test adaptor (Seals and Spacers) and place them in sequence with the drawing and next to the new seals. 7. Inspect Spacers for condition (Heat damage, distortion) and replace as necessary (Spacer kit available from Nav-Aids Ltd.) 8. Inspect the interior of the test adaptor for dirt, rubber residue and corrosion. 9. Inspect the snubber at the test adaptor interior bottom for condition (Snubber for pitot tube tip protection). 10. Clean the test adaptor interior cavity with mild cleaning solvent and blow dry. 11. Inspect the exterior of the test adaptor, hose fittings, caution labels, lanyards and flag for integrity. 12. Check compression nut, hose fittings and fitting caps for function. 13. Lubricate compression nut with "Threadlube", or equal lubricant. 14. Install the new seals as follows:
15. Install knurled compression nut. 16. Install surclip. 17. Take the Pre-Test tool and apply a thin film of lubrication fluid P/N FL5050 (2-3 drops) onto its test surface all around. 18. Verify Test Adaptor operation by:
19. If a leak exists in the pitot or static side, verify proper placement of the adaptor on the Pre-Test tool, or verify proper seal and spacer sequence and installation. |
Note |
Prior to installation of the Test Adaptor on the aircraft pitot tube, each time use the Pre-Test Tool for lubricating the seals and for verification of the integrity by applying some pitot and static pressure from the Air Data Testset, i.e. no leaks within and to the exterior of the Test Adaptor. This will extend life of the seals and provides ease of installation of the test adaptor. |

* Seal Kits or Seal and Spacer Kits * |
Please contact: Erika Galliker Information, Price/Delivery Quotations, and Order Desk: Test Adaptors contain seals and spacers that can easily be exchanged when burned or worn. Complete sets of seals and / or spacer kits for each type of test adaptor are available directly from Nav-Aids. When ordering seals or spacer kits, simply specify the part number of the test adaptor for which the seals are required. |
** LUBRICATION FLUID P/N LF5050 |
This fluid is used to lubricate the glands of the pitot and static test adaptors. It is recommended that a small amount of fluid be placed on the pitot probe before adaptor is installed on the aircraft. The lubricating fluid will ensure smooth adaptor installation on to the pitot tube and will keep the adaptor seals moist. |
